New Hobby

So I decided that I was going to start doing YouTube videos. I thought maybe doing a playthrough of a game would be a good idea. It would get me doing something somewhat creative and get me involved in the YouTube community. I have always admired the YouTube community as it has started (and still hosts) a lot of very entertaining people.

I watch Toby Turner, Philip DeFranco, iJustine, EpicMealTime and many others. My favorite at the moment has to be Rooster Teeth though. They just do great content and it comes out every day. From Podcasts to YouTube sketches they are unstoppable. So, kind of inspired by all of that, I made a couple of videos of me playing Terraria. Terraria is kind of like an arcade version of Minecraft. I did a review of it on shoryuken.ie if you want to check it out. I came up with a format called a “skipthrough”. As the game involves a lot of grinding, I only show the best bits and cut the rest out. So in the end I got about 12-15 episodes for a complete playthrough of the game.

I’m going to post them in groups and see how it goes. I had fun making them, its an interesting game as there is no linear path to take. So you just get to see the unique parts of the game in random order. There are a couple of boss battles throughout so that’s how I decided on the ending for it. I’ll keep playing but I don’t think there is any good content in looking for the last items of the game. My next project is to do a step by step of my development of a Minecraft mod.

My new place!

Aug 30
2010

So after the months of planning and saving my pennies I finally moved into the new apartment in Galway! It is a lot more than just a place to live for me, its a little piece of independence and liberation from my old life and a giant leap into a new one. I start work in two weeks time and I am really looking forward to it.

As of today the house is finally done, by which I mean I got UPC installed and now have real TV and broadband! So now I can start to relax and get into a routine (which I badly need). Its strange how obsessive I am about things around the house. All the furniture has to be just right, all the dishes have to be done and the bed always have to be made. I never really put that much effort into my room, let alone the house, when I lived with my parents.

So here are a few pictures just to give you an idea:

Front Door!

My Workshop!

The Kitchen!

TV, Broadband, Surround Sound, Desktop, PS3 and UPC!

The Bedrooms!

Its been a long and complicated journey and to say the least it has been a bumpy few months for me. I dunno whats ahead but its terrifying yet exciting! I’m sure its something I’ll get over. Taking the journey alone is proving to be more difficult than I first anticipated. Well to be honest it has it moments, once I keep moving and have stuff to do, even something as trivial as washing the dishes, I’m absolutely fine. But when you run out of things to do, the mind wanders and bordom sets in. I hope that feeling fades when I start work or meet some people down here. Only time will tell.
